Where I have to go three or four nights a week, there’s a couple handicapped spots with a cross-hatched section between them for van ramps outside a few businesses, one that has a lot of child traffic.
NEARLY EVERY TIME I’m there some uppity entitled parent parks in the handicapped spots to drop off/pick up their offspring.
Last night, I had to confront one.
As my daughter was entering my car through the right rear door, the lady in the Buick approached. It was as my daughter was closing her door did I see her headlight RIGHT IN MY RIGHT MIRROR.
Too close.
So I told her “Hey, if you’re going to park illegally in the handicapped spot, don’t get so close to my car. You nearly hit my door”
She claimed she didn’t think she got close, totally negating the fact that she was parked illegally. AND BADLY, half in the van ramp. In fact, when I reminded her she was still parked illegally she rolled up her window and pretended like I wasn’t there.
So I reported it. Not her, mind you, just the PLETHORA of parents I see doing this in that lot. The local PD said they’d keep an eye on. I know they will, when I go for walks around the area at night they’re always sitting in adjacent parking lots and streets doing bupkis.
Fucking lazy entitled suburban luxury SUV drivin’ thoughtless careless good for nothin’.....

Whenever I confront someone for parking in a handicap space, they won’t even stand up to me.
I mean, just because you’re confined to a wheelchair doesn’t mean you’re not responsible for your behavior!

That shit enrages me!
I went to DQ this summer to get my wife a birthday cake. The place has three parking spots out front, one of them handicapped. The others were both full. So I parked in the HUGE parking lot out back, carried one kid, held the hand of the other, walked them around, got the cake, walked them back out (into the 95 degree heat), and some entitled shit for brains parked her minivan in the damn handicapped spot so her brood could go get good and sugered up without the horror of walking 65 feet. I wanted to throw the cake at her.

It seems especially hard for people going to the gym, who seem to always fight over the closest spot or park illegally to be closer to the door.

I’ve had little tolerance for people that abuse handicapped spaces. My mother has become wheelchair bound in the last year or so. I can’t tell you how many times I can’t even find a handicapped space, even at a place like Walmart that has about 20 of them. Yet somehow every time I’m in Walmart with my mother, I never see anyone there that looks as though they have any type of mobility issues at all.
I’ve laid into people who abuse the spaces and they just ignore you. I think I’m going to start carying around some roofing nails to throw under their tires.

Funny thing is, there was a gym two doors down (next to the Chinese food place) that went out of business. lel

Not near the entrance, not marked for disabled, seems to be in the vehicle waiting for someone to finish taking a picture... I’ll let it pass.

Counterpoint: I knew someone with almost debilitating rhumatoid arthritis who usually needed to walk with a cane and had a handicap placard. Occasionally she had good days and could leave the cane behind, while still being in subtle pain, and would get harassed for parking in the HC spot. Of course, you may be speaking of people without even a placard.

I can get having a debilitating illness that comes and goes. And for the most part I would never say anything to someone unless I’ve seen the same person do it multiple times, or those people who just park close without a placard because they’re too lazy to walk.
It actually kind of bugs me to park so close to a store, and I will only do it when I’m out with my mother if there’s inclement weather. I’m able bodied enough to push her wheelchair, I don’t need the space. It just pisses me off that I’m sure there are people out there that need the spaces that can’t ever use them.

Are they actually parking or just waiting for their kid in the spot for a few minutes. I think it does make some difference, ethically and in the eyes of the law (standing, stopping, and parking are different things).
Doesn’t excuse unsafe driving in the parking lot regardless, and other factors come into play when considering how much of a dick move it is.

Doesn’t matter if you’re stopped for a second or an hour, parked is parked.

Walter: My wife and I couldn’t find any place to park all over near this stinkin’ joint. And some jerk pulled up in a brand new Mercedes and pulled right into the handicap spot. He got out of the car and there was nothin’ wrong with him, don’t you hate that? So I ran his ass over. I made an honest man out of him! And his mother got out of the other side and started swinging her crutches at me — took her out with the door.

It’s only parking if you leave the vehicle (or possibly if you turn it off?). Of course under the legal definition of standing (at least as I learned it, I’m sure it varies state to state), you shouldn’t be there long enough to be a big risk of blocking people.

The last two days I have had to visit this shopping center to find someone parked in the fucking turn lane (annotated in red) It’s not a shoulder, it’s not street parking, it’s a fucking. Turn. Lane.
There’s parking in the lot, and there spaces both times. I should know, since I like... parked in them.
What do I find when I go to take a screenshot?

You should stop behind them, indicator on, and just lay on the horn and scream out the window.

There is a UPS depot near us that we use to drop off packages. There is parking (red outline) but where do I see someone parked every time we go?
The handicapped spots up front.
What a bunch of assholes.

Or walk up to them with a lost on your face, and ask them if they are from around here, and if they have a minute....
When they say yes, ask them if they happened to know the location of the nearest parking lot, or somewhere to properly leave a vehicle unattended.

In theory, if you are standing, you are supposed to be actively loading/unloading anyway, so I’d expect you to be gone within 30 seconds anyway. If you’re there longer, then definitely you should move if someone needs the spot.

Well here’s what the law in Wisconsin has to say ‘bout it emphasis mine:
(a) Except for a motor vehicle used by a physically disabled person as defined under s. 346.503 (1) , no person may park, stop or leave standing any vehicle, whether attended or unattended and whether temporarily or otherwise, upon any portion of a street, highway or parking facility reserved, by official traffic signs indicating the restriction, for vehicles displaying special registration plates issued under s. 341.14 (1) , (1a) , (1e) , (1m) , (1q) or (1r) (a) or a special identification card issued under s. 343.51 or vehicles registered in another jurisdiction and displaying a registration plate, card or emblem issued by the other jurisdiction which designates the vehicle as a vehicle used by a physically disabled person.
